Once there was an explosion in a school, in America. The horrible fire caught an eight-year-old boy "Glenn Cunningham". His waist, legs, and toes were completely burnt. There was no flesh in his legs. The doctors checked his body and decided to amputate his legs.
Glenn and his parents requested the doctors not to amputate. The doctors said "He will never walk again in his life. His legs are useless. They are big burdens to his body." And they left.
For many months, he sat in a wheelchair. One day Glenn decided to walk from his wheelchair. But he fell down on the floor. Many times, he used to leave his wheelchair and started walking. But he fell down. He started moving on the floor. He used to drag his legs. For 2 years, there was no change in his legs.
One day he was able to stand up on his feet. He used to hold walls and walk slowly. Daily he used to move and walk with the help of walls. He tried days and days to walk. Two years passed. He got some improvement. He could walk in his house. He avoided his wheelchair forever. It was his first success.
He started walking to school. He was able to walk to school daily. It was another success.
Then he started running to school daily. He felt a great deal of happiness in running. Running became his passion. He ran many miles per day.
He took healthy food daily. He did exercises. He followed the guidance of running coaches. Gradually he became a professional runner.
In 1932, Glenn finished 1500 meters and he got 4th position in the summer Olympics.
In 1934, Glenn finished 1 mile within 4:06:8 minutes ( Four minutes, six seconds and 8 milliseconds) Until that time, Nobody in the world finished running 1 mile within that less time. Glenn Cunningham created a world record. All newspapers in the world wrote this news in the first page.
A boy, who was told that he would never walk again, ran faster than all people in the world.
